Enhancing Post-Mining Lands’ Value through Sustainable Melon Cultivation: A Hydroponic Approach

Abstract This study investigates the potential of utilizing post-mining areas for sustainable melon (Cucurbitales, Cucurbitaceae, Cucumis) cultivation, focusing on premium production by PT. Indominco Mandiri within its Community Development and Empowerment program. A hydroponic system, which involves cultivation plants in a soilless medium with nutrient solution, was employed due to advantages improving plant quality yield. Findings demonstrate that thrives ex-mining conditions, reaching harvesting maturity 2.5 months, fruits noted their sweetness. Additionally, melons were found be rich source vitamins A, K, C, B-6, E, niacin, essential minerals including calcium, potassium, ferum, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, zinc, low sodium no fat content. research underscores system’s reclaiming lands, enhancing economic viability fostering community development empowerment. The implications these findings extend environmental rehabilitation agriculture practices, offering feasible productive use land globally.
